Bicycle Design STEM Competition Rules
$12,500 to be awarded in scholarships
Schedule of Events
Competition Finals - February 18, 2017
To be held at The Soda House at The Hagley Museum and Library
Route 141, Wilmington, DE 19807 GPS Directions: 298 Buck Road, Wilmington, DE 19807
Competition is open to all high school students grades 9-12.
Registration, Student Fee* $10.00 due by midnight October 1, 2016. Late registration, student fee* $20.00 due by December 2, 2016.
Student/Team Project Concept Paper must be submitted No Later Than midnight December 2, 2016.
Quarter Finalists (12 in each of the 5 categories: 1) Science 2) Technology 3) Engineering 4) Math 5) Open) will compete for scholarships.
Project Concept Papers will be judged in STEM and an Open (combination of STEM related principles) category. Criteria will be based on category principles, creativity, design, function and written plus graphic presentation. 60 Quarter finalists plus 5 alternates (1 per category) will be selected based upon above criteria and notified by December 31, 2016.
25 Semi-Finalists (5 in each category) will be determined by criteria including table setup/presentation, prototype demonstration and/or detailed design drawing of concept and announced Sunday morning at noon.
Saturday afternoon the 25 Finalists (5 in each category) will be scheduled to give a 5 minute oral presentation and 2 minutes for Questions and Answers. Based upon this criteria judges will determine:
1st Place (in each category) $2000 Scholarship to your college or Technical School of your choice in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math
2nd Place (in each category) $500 to your college or Technical School of your choice in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math
Winners will be announced at the Award Reception Saturday evening.
Hotel Reservations required by (Date TBA) to receive Competition Weekend discount.
Hotel rooms will be available for alternates at discounted rate.
